Heritage Soccer Club Mission Statement:
To provide a highly competitive soccer program
for our players and parents in the Contra Costa
County area through our program of player
development under the guidance of experienced
and successful coaches and Club training staff
committed to excellence and continued challenge
for our kids to be their best.
A Message from the President
Welcome to the Heritage Soccer Club (HSC) and
our website. HSC was formed in February 2002 by
a visionary group of people to provide a
competitive outlet to serve the youth of the
greater Contra Costa County area. We firmly
believe that every child who has the ambition to
play soccer at a competitive level, should be
provided that opportunity. Heritage is here to
provide them that opportunity.
Heritage is an independent club with the
California Youth Soccer Association (CYSA) and
U. S. Club Soccer, both of which are affiliated
with U. S. Soccer Federation. Our teams play
their league games through the CYSA District 4
Competitive League, the Golden State Soccer
League, and US Club Soccer. Our goal is
continue to deliver a quality soccer experience
without becoming so large that we become an
assemblage of teams with no main Club identity.
Our primary objective remains the development of
our kids' soccer skills and to instill
confidence and character within the framework of
a positive coaching environment. Confidence and
character will lead to life successes both on
and off the soccer field.
I have been involved with the Club since its
inception and I recall one of the main
objectives Scott Gordon and the others who
formed HSC had--to complement our local high
school programs. This objective is being met
based upon the fact that during the 2006/2007
high school season, 20 of Heritage's players
received All League honors playing for their
respective high schools. One of those players,
Tareena "Mo" Oakley of College Park and of the
Heritage Sundogs, was named to the Contra Costa
Times "All Times Team". These 20 players
represented Alhambra, College Park, Concord,
Berean Christian, Antioch, and Liberty High
Schools.
Another reason this objective is being met is
our effort to actively recruit local high school
coaches. This year, the entire coaching staff
from College Park High School is involved with
the Club. In addition, we have coaches from
Alhambra, Berean Christian, Antioch, and Liberty
High Schools (see the Coaches Page). Our high
schools are the main gateway to collegiate
athletic programs throughout the United States.
To that end, we have endeavored to recruit
graduates who have played at the collegiate
level. These include Tracy Hamm, Nadia Al-Lami, Alivia Mazura,
and Sierra Schlessinger from Cal. They are
invaluable to our players when it comes to
answering questions regarding playing at the
collegiate level.
Overall, Heritage teams had successful seasons
this past year with 10 of 24 teams placing in
1st or 2nd in their respective divisions. These
10 teams include the U10G Panthers, U11G Swarm,
U12G Sting, U15G Strikers, U16G Heat, U16G
Vendetta, U10B Bears, U12B Lightning, U16B
Velocity, and U16B Knights. In addition to
league success, we had a number of teams who did
well at State and Association Cup. These
include the U13G Magic, U15G Strikers, U15B
Stampede, and the U16B Knights. Although
success is typically measured by wins and
losses, at Heritage, that is not the only goal.
One of our coaching principles is "emphasizing
the importance of improving individual
abilities, acquiring new skills and enhancing
team play". Congratulations to all Heritage
players!
This year holds even greater promise. We are
fielding 23 teams this year in boys’ and girls’
age levels ranging from Under 10 to Under 19.
But HSC has endeavored to be more than just a
collection of teams playing under a common club
name – we value the relationships we have
created with our players, parents and coaches,
and the benefits that flow from positive
interaction amongst teams.
We provide a system of training through our
coaching staff to develop skills for your
children to play at the highest level they can
achieve. We also have a core group of parent
volunteers second to none, and we value your
investment as an involved parent in the
development of your kids’ soccer career. Get
involved and reap the benefits! Around the
world, soccer is known as the “beautiful game”.
Honor the game and enjoy your time in the sport!
Yours in soccer,
Jim Dick
