2005Thunder 2nd
at Sacramento United Holiday Invitational
Heritage Thunder, U11B Class I,
grabbed second place at the 26th Annual Holiday
Invitational tournament in Sacramento, Thanksgiving
weekend. Thunder did not allow a goal in their first three
games, which included big wins over the host team and Tracy
United. A goal in the 58th minute beat Hanford United 1-0
in windy, cold conditions. It was Thunder and Lightning as
the two top teams matched up Sunday afternoon. In the most
exiting game of the weekend San Juan Lightning came away a
3-2 winner.
ECLIPSE U19G
Silver Division Champions
In the final game of the season against the Hayward Spiders,
Heritage Eclipse clinched the U19 District IV Class 3 Girls
Silver
Division
championship. Eclipse dominated the game, scoring early and
often, with a final score of 6-1. Darci Sammi managed a
hat-trick, putting in a chip over the keepers' head for the
first goal of the day, and adding two more in the second
half. This score reflects the dominant play Eclipse has
shown all season long, completing the season 8-1-1 and
outscoring the opponents 29 to 7. The best part of this win
was the continued demonstration of teamwork, ball handling
skills, and combination play that the young women of Eclipse
have developed. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!
KNIGHTS CHAMPIONS OF
U16, DISTRICT IV
After losing a hard
fought first game of the
season, the U16 Knights
went undefeated for
their remaining 9 games
to win a hard fought
league season. After
five games, their
leading scorer, Andres
Orozco went down with a
broken ankle that
required surgery. The
rest of the team stepped
up to not only fill the
scoring gap, with James
Sears, Ryan Geraghty and
Mark Szymanski leading
the way; but the defense
led by Gabe Matson also
stiffened to hold the
opposition at bay for a
final 5 games, each of
which required a victory
to hold off two strong
teams; Berkeley &
Benicia. After 4 weeks,
the team tied Benicia
for 1st place, then won
a tense 2-1 struggle in
the penultimate game to
take sole possession of
first. On Saturday,
playing for a win to
guarantee league
victory, the Knights
were tied at 1-1 at
halftime, then roared
out with three second
half goals to win the
game and the league.
The Knights, composed of
15 players who are U15
and 2 who are U16 are
particularly pleased to
have won their U16
division this season and
look forward to more
success in the future.
Thunder Wins
Boys-U11 Class 1-Silver Division
Coach Sandy Jones' Thunder
accumulated 22 points, with an outstanding +21 goal
differential, to win the District IV-U11B-Class 1-Silver
Title. The Thunder started the season off like a firestorm,
going 6-0, and then bled-it
in to victory - literally, (an October 8th win over DVSC
sent two players for
emergency repairs). A tough loss in the WCC "mud bowl"
game, a flat performance
against MDSL and a tie at Ballistic in game nine, put the
Thunder in a three way
tie for first place with one to play. A 5-2 win in the
final game over Benicia
Arsenal clinched the title with a 7-2-1 record. 2005 is the
first year the Thunder are playing together and the players
are looking forward to the Thanksgiving and Winter
tournaments.
Best of luck to all of our Heritage SC brother and sister
teams for the upcoming
tournaments.
HAMMERS CLINCH
EARLY The Hammers (
Under 12 Boys ) clinched the Division Three Gold District IV
League Division this past weekend. While assured of at least
a tie the boys
had to beat the San Pablo Lions to insure the League
Division was theirs outright with a game to play. Two quick
goals by Ben Lambourne in the first two minutes took
the wind out of the opponents but they were resilient and
made the Hammers fight for their championship. San Pablo
pulled one back but Heritage ended up winners with a final
score of 2-1. After losing 7 players from last years squad
this team has regrouped at Division Three and have had a
very successful season. In the summer the team won three
tournaments and had a Third place finish in their fourth
tournament posting a 15- 1 record for the Summer. In
Divisional play with
their victory this past weekend the boys remain undefeated
having been successful in winning ALL nine games to date. At
times the team has played some excellent soccer and although
much work is still needed to be done the Hammers remain
optimistic about their chances in the Association Cup at the
end of the season. Good Job HAMMERS !
CYANIDE
TAKES FIRST AT SPOOKFEST!
T he ever exuberant
CYANIDE team made the
long trek north to Fort
Bragg to play in the
SPOOKFEST tournament.
Although the ranks were
thinned by homecoming
activities the girls
went into the tournament
with positive
attitudes. The first
game was against the
Coast Spice Girls which
also happened to be the
tournament directors
team, the true home
team. Despite the huge
fan base supporting the
home team CYANIDE stayed
focused and walked away
with a 2-1 win. The
second game was against
a strong Paradise Magic
team and despite some
early injuries CYANIDE
held their composure and
captured a second 2-1
win. Feeling a little
recreation was in order
after Saturdays games
the team spent some time
beachcombing, shopping,
terrorizing the local
populace and wrapping up
with a team dinner. The
team showed
up for Sundays game with
painted faces in the
Halloween spirit and
quickly found themselves
sharing the extra
materials with other
teams. The team hadn't
lost any of its
enthusiasm and rolled
over a shocked SAC
Synergy team 4-1. The
finals were held in the
Timberwolf stadium in
late afternoon. The
opponents, WCC Clash had
manhandled the newly
formed CYANIDE at one of
the earlier spring
tournaments this year.
Prior to the game the
captains spoke to the
team about being a team,
how far they had come
and how walking away
without a first place
victory was
unacceptable. The game
was touch and go and by
the end of the match
each team had been held
scoreless. Going
directly to penalty
kicks the first round
again ended in a tie.
The second round sudden
death ended in CYANIDES
favor with a great save
by the keeper Sarah
Winkler. CYANIDE takes
great pride in
the tournament victory
but also is reaping
the benefits of
the countless hours on
the practice field
blending players from
five high schools into a
competitive soccer
team.
VENDETTA TAKES
2ND AT FORT BRAGG
SPOOKFEST!
Our first game was
at 8 am
Saturday
morning, and the
girls were ready to
play. We kicked off
the
tournament
with a 2-0 win over
Paradise Sweepers,
Katelin
Jennings and
Katy
Regan were the
goal scorers. It
was a game in which
we dominated, and
the ball was a
magnet to the
keepers hands.
We played a similar
game in the
afternoon, beating
Humboldt Rapids 2-0,
an early goal from
Kirsten
Jennings and a free
kick from
Katy
Regan. Our
super keeper Rachel
Winkler stood
tall and saved a
penalty. Despite
knowing it, they
were through to the
championship.
Vendetta entered
their
final qualifying
game with the same
energy and
intensity and
came away with a 3-1
victory, 2 goals
scored by Emily
Johnson and 1 by
Kirsten
Jennings, all
resulting from some
excellently
executed
through balls by
Ariana Grunert
in the
midfield.
Going into the
final, there were
some tired and
injured players.
They played their
hardest against
Madera.
Vendetta had met
their match. It was
a very close game,
the
defense
cleaned up well,
unfortunately we
found it difficult
to wind our way
through their
defensive line. With
numerous scoring
opportunities at
both ends,
Madera
finally scored with
7 minutes to go.
Vendetta came close,
with Sarah Walton
just missing the
goal, a free kick
drifting wide.
It was an intense
game but
unfortunately it was
not our day. We were
defeated 1-0.
Vendetta played some
of the most
impressive soccer I
have seen in a long
time, right from the
first game to the
last minute of the
championship.
EVERY player
deserves recognition
for their hard work
