SWARM DELIVERS
BACK TO BACK TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIPS
After setting an early season goal to win
two summer season tournaments, the U11G
SWARM successfully delivered with
back-to-back tournament championships in
Tracy and Novato. Over the course of the 8
games in the two tournaments, SWARM
surrendered just 2 goals, led by defensive
specialists Jessica Jordan and Dulce Armas.
On the offensive side, SWARM pounded its
opponents with an overwhelming 31 goals, led
by 3rd year striker Natalie Romeo and
recently added attacking mid-fielder Kylee
Perez. Most impressive in each of the two
tournaments was SWARM's ability to play
consistent and steady soccer, particularly
in each of the two championship games. In
Tracy, SWARM fell behind early in the 1st
half but controlled play for the remainder
in the game, eventually winning 2-1. In
Novato, SWARM again controlled play in the
first and second periods. Despite several
frustrating near misses, including post and
crossbar hits, SWARM remained resilient and
was rewarded in the 58th minute, with
Natalie Romeo working a crossing pass to
Kylee Perez for the kill, and the
championship!
CONGRATULATIONS SWARM!!
STRIKERS
TAKE FIRST PLACE IN SACRAMENTO SUNTAN
CLASSIC TOURNAMENT-
The Strikers eventually found their offense
this weekend to win the U15 girls division I
scoring 11 goals and giving up 2. After an
early goal in the first match, the team was
unable to find the back of the net despite
out-shooting their opponents 5 to 1 and
posted a 1-1 tie against Turlock Tornados.
The second game found the host team
frustrated early and often as the Strikers
scored 5 times while giving up one goal and
moved into semi-final game. Early Sunday
morning the team faced a familiar opponent,
the Walnut Creek Strikers. The girls were
very sharp with crisp passes and solid
defense in the first half to post 2 goals
and managed to shut down their opponents for
a shutout. The Strikers turned up the
offense again in the championship game
scoring three goals against a tenacious
Tornado team to post a clean sheet and win
the tournament.
SUNDOGS
TAKE FIRST PLACE AND HEAT
TAKES SECOND IN SLO TOURNAMENT-
Randy Madison was very busy
ushering his Heritage U18 girls division I
to a gold medal and his U16 girls division
I to a silver medal in the San Luis Obispo
tournament. Coach Randy Madison had his most
successful outing in recent memory, guiding
the U-18 Sundogs to the SLO North/South
Championship, with his U-16 Heat barely
missing the Champion’s podium, taking the
Silver medal. Both teams put on an offensive
show for the SLO fans, with aggressive play
and goals to show for it. The defensive play
was tough, with the Sundogs posting 3
shutout wins. The team kept its 8-year
streak alive in winning at least 1
Tournament and/or league championship since
the team was a U-10 squad. The Heat unleashed
an offensive display and outscored your
opponents 14-3. The Heat posted 2 shutouts,
had the lead in every game and lost only on
a fluke goal against an excellent but equal
team. The Heat next travel to San Diego for
the Labor Day Hotspurs Tournament, and look
to avenge last year’s semi-final shoot-out
loss to the host team, Hotspurs.
U14G III
CROSSFIRE-
took fourth at the Hayward Girls Summer
Classic this weekend. The Heritage girls
qualified for the consolation final by
playing the Dublin Divas to a 0-0 tie and
also tying East Diablo Fury 1-1 on Saturday,
and then beating the Mustang Spirit 2-1 on
Sunday morning. They lost 1-0 to the Santa
Rosa Hurricanes in a hard fought final.
Scoring goals for the Crossfire this weekend
were Andi Corrigan (2) and Kayla Caryl.
Tenacious goalkeeping by Sarah Sauter and
Kayla Payne kept the Crossfire in every game
they played.
Bears looking
strong!-
Heritage
SC’s U10 boys team has been turning heads in recent jamboree
play. In seven matches, the Bears have scored 35 goals and
conceded just one on their way to a perfect 7-0 jamboree
record. Coach Lewis Woodward is amazed at the improvement
the team has shown, and their commitment to learning the
fundamentals of the game is inspiring. At the Sacramento
United NorCal jamboree, the Bears bewildered formidable
opponents such as Placer United and San Juan with quality
passing and resolute defending. The team’s goalkeepers
hardly touched the ball at the Walnut Creek Summerfest
Jamboree, which saw the Bears coast to two 10-0 victories.
The boys also had the opportunity to show their gritty side,
hanging on to a hard-fought and impressive 1-0 win over a
highly skilled Real Madrid Juniors side. With one more
jamboree to play, the Bears are excited for upcoming league
play in September.
Adrenaline wins
Pacifica United Coast Cup-
After a
strong semi-final showing in the Hawaii Cup in July, the
Adrenaline returned to Pacifica to defend their 2005 U14
title. Competing for the first time against in the U16
division (as an age-pure U15 team), the Adrenaline went two
goals down in the first half against formidable opponents
Walnut Creek Power. Showing their incredible character and
team spirit, the Adrenaline responded by scoring four goals
in the second half to win 4-2. The game set the tone for the
rest of the weekend; excellent team passing and solid
defending contributed to a 1-0 win over the Knockouts, and a
dominating 3-0 defeat over the Tuolumne Wildfire. The Sunday
afternoon championship match was against a tough, physical
team in the Santa Rosa Riptide, but the Adrenaline stuck to
their game plan and outplayed the other team for a
well-deserved 3-2 victory.
