Havoc Takes Second at the Diablo Cup
Havoc went into
the Diablo Cup with the idea of getting ready for state cup.
We wanted to be competitive but also make sure everyone got
plenty of playing time to prepare us for state.
Our first game was against Newark Argonauts. They were the
team that took us apart, and everyone else, at the
Pleasanton tournament in August. It was a great game. We
scored first when Alex Meilan broke through and buried one
in the net. Newark came back with a goal before the half to
make it a tie at half time. About midway through the last
half, Matt Johnathan found the ball coming in high and got
his head on it to put us ahead. Unfortunately, Newark came
back again with a goal and we ended with a 2-2 tie. After
the game their coach commented on how far we've come as a
team since August. Havoc definitely outplayed the Newark
Argonauts.
The second game was against SSJ Eagles. A team we've played
twice in tournaments and lost to both times. It was a hard
fought game and ended in a 0-0 tie. Our boys played well and
could easily have won. This put us in second place in our
flight as there were only three teams in each flight. Sunday
we had to play the first place team from the other flight.
It was the Fremont Fury, a team we played during league
play, and as always was a tough game. Matt Johnathan found
the net in the first half and after a dogfight, Havoc won
the game.
This put us in the championship game against Davis Galaxy.
Although Matt Johnathan put one in the net early on it was
called back. We were tired both mentally and physically.
Havoc ended up falling to Davis 3-0.
We took home second place medals and made sure all of the
other
teams at the Diablo Cup knew that Havoc was a team to be reckoned with.
